Maryland State Parks’ New Reservation System: What Campers Need To Do Now (and How to Pack Smarter)

Maryland just upgraded its online reservations system for campsites, cabins, and more across 37 state parks. Here’s how to access your bookings, avoid login-day panic, and pack like you planned it that way.

A smoother booking experience—if you take 5 minutes to prep

Nothing derails a camping trip faster than reservation-day confusion: missing confirmation numbers, password resets, and that sinking feeling that you booked the right weekend… but can’t prove it.

On March 5, 2026, Maryland announced the Maryland Park Service has launched a new reservations management system for 37 Maryland State Parks, designed to be faster and more intuitive for booking campsites, cabins, mini-cabins, pavilions, and other amenities. The good news: existing reservations were transferred. The key detail: you’ll need to activate your account to see and manage them.

Do this before you start packing

Log into the reservation system first, confirm your dates/site details, then build your packing list around the real amenities you have (electric hookup, water nearby, bathhouse distance, etc.).

What changed in Maryland’s reservation system (and what didn’t)

According to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, the upgraded platform improves performance on desktop and mobile, streamlines checkout, and adds new communication tools like optional text message notifications.

A few things campers always worry about during a system switch stayed consistent: amenities and reservation pricing remain unchanged, and the transaction fee structure is the same as before. Some camping policies have changed or been updated, so it’s worth scanning the policy list if you’re planning a longer stay or multiple weekends.

    • New, faster system for booking and managing reservations at 37 Maryland State Parks
    • Improved mobile/desktop experience and streamlined checkout
    • Optional text notifications are now available
    • Existing reservations were transferred from the old system
    • Pricing and transaction fees remained the same (per the announcement)

    Smart planning move

Turn on text notifications (if you want them). It’s an easy way to catch last-minute updates without digging through email while you’re on the road.

How to access transferred reservations (without the stress spiral)

If you booked before the system launched, Maryland says those reservations were securely transferred, and you should have received an email with a new booking number after the transition.

To manage an existing reservation—or make a new one—you must activate your account at the new portal. Even if you’re a returning customer, you’ll set up a new password. Maryland’s instructions: enter the email address you originally used and choose “Forgot Password” to receive a reset link. The state notes you won’t need to re-enter customer information once you do this.

    • Use the same email you used when you booked
    • Reset your password via “Forgot Password” to activate access
    • Look for an email containing your new booking number
    • After activation, review your dates, park, site type, and add-ons

If you can’t find your reservation

Call support early (not the night before departure). Maryland lists customer support at 1-888-432-2267 for help with account creation and locating reservations.

What a reservation confirmation should trigger on your packing list

Once your booking is visible, it’s time to pack based on what you actually reserved—not what you assume the campground will have. A confirmed reservation is basically a spec sheet for your trip: site type, electricity, nearby amenities, and your likely camping style (car camping, cabin weekend, or RV stopover).

In CampMate, create (or duplicate) a base list, then customize it using your reservation details. This prevents the two most common problems we see: overpacking “just in case” items and forgetting the boring-but-critical gear that depends on your campsite setup.

    • If you have electric: pack a safe outdoor-rated extension cord, charging kit, and optional lights
    • If you don’t have electric: pack extra batteries, a power bank, and backup lighting
    • If you reserved a cabin/mini-cabin: confirm what bedding is (or isn’t) included before you assume
    • If you’re arriving late: pack a “set-up in the dark” mini-kit (headlamp, stakes, quick snacks)

    CampMate shortcut

Save a template called “State Park Weekend,” then add a quick “Reservation-Specific” section each trip (hookups, check-in notes, gate codes, and confirmation number).

Your 10-minute checklist for a smoother Maryland camping season

Reservation systems are supposed to make planning easier—and this upgrade looks like a step in that direction. The trick is to do a small bit of account housekeeping now, so you’re not troubleshooting logins while everyone else is loading the car.

Activate your account, confirm your transferred reservation details, and then let that info drive a tighter packing list. Less guesswork, fewer duplicate items, and a better start to the trip.

    • Activate your account using the email you booked with
    • Confirm your dates, site type, and amenities
    • Store your new booking number somewhere easy to reach
    • Build your packing list around your real campsite setup
    • Start a “last 30 minutes” checklist for departure day

    One last planning habit

Screenshot your reservation details (or save them offline). Cell service at the gate isn’t guaranteed—even when everything else is perfectly planned.

    Continue the journey

    Pack to match your reservation—automatically

Once your campsite or cabin is confirmed, CampMate helps you build a packing list that fits your exact setup, so you bring what you’ll use (and skip what you won’t).
